Student Learning Conferences on Thursday

Parents/guardians will be able to book conferences online through your PowerSchool/MyCBE account starting this afternoon at 4. The conferences will take place on Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20. Students are encouraged to come with their parents if possible.

Learning conferences are a time to discuss your child’s learning, celebrating their successes and making action plans for their challenges. These appointments are only fifteen minutes long, so please be sure to arrive promptly. Teachers will have to end each appointment on time to stay on schedule.

School Council/Parent Society Meeting Monday

Marlborough’s School Council and Parents’ Society are related but separate bodies that help support student learning at our school. The Annual General Meetings for School Council and Parents’ Society are coming up on Monday, October 16 at 6pm in the Learning Commons at the school.

At these meetings, issues such as fundraising efforts, upcoming Council/Society events, and volunteer opportunities for parents/guardians are discussed. Every parent/guardian of a Marlborough School student is welcome to attend. If you have any questions about School Council or Parents’ Society, please contact council.

Weather – Thanks!

It was good to see students in rain coats, rubber boots and umbrellas this week. We also noticed how many items were labelled, which made lost things easier to return to students.

We go outside, rain or shine, unless there is dangerous weather (lightning, extreme cold). This means that we do go outside in wet and cold conditions. Keeping an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack (socks especially) ensures that everyone can be comfortable in the afternoon, even if their play in the rain at lunchtime leaves them a little soggy.

Student Safety Patrols

Our student safety patrols are going to start on Monday morning. Thanks to our grade 5 volunteers and their families for making this work with their schedules. Patrollers will need to arrive for their shifts at 7:40am for entry and the afternoon dismissal group will be on duty until 2:45pm. Please make sure, if your child is on patrols, to have a plan for them to arrive on time for the morning shift and to get home safely after the afternoon shift. Note that if your grade 5 student has patrol duty in the afternoon, this will impact any pickup duties they have for younger siblings.

We have asked many times through this weekly update for drivers to follow the laws and be extra careful in the zone outside our school and surrounding our crosswalk. As our patrols get started, we implore you to put safety ahead of convenience.
